Few people know that the young Irish actress, the star of the BBC series "War and Peace," in which Jessie Buckley played Marya Bolkonskaya, started out as a singer. In 2008, she performed at the Andrew Lloyd Webber birthday celebration show in Hyde Park and later in a whole series of concerts and shows. Jessie graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2013 and immediately made a successful debut at the Globe Theatre in a dramatic role (Miranda in "The Tempest"). This was followed by theatrical work in other notable productions: "Henry V" (2013) with Jude Law, and "The Winter's Tale" (2015) with Kenneth Branagh and Judi Dench.

Among Buckley's television roles are the aforementioned Marya Bolkonskaya in "War & Peace" (2016), Lorna Bow in "Taboo" (2017) with Tom Hardy, and Marian Halcombe in "The Woman in White" (2018).

In 2018, Buckley starred in the psychological thriller "Beast," where she formed an excellent duo with Johnny Flynn.

At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Los Angeles (2026), she won the award for her role as Agnes in the film "Hamnet," directed by Chloé Zhao and based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name about Shakespeare and his wife.
